Scholarship Programme

Brief overview:  The Scholarship Programme marked its 6th anniversary in 2011. MI funding has prevented more than 70 orphans from being force to drop out of school due to financial reasons. Aside from sponsoring the tuition of many students, the Scholarship Programme also provides scholarship recipients with school supplies and other needs necessary for academic success.

Annually since 2005, MI Scholarship has been financially supporting 10-15 students from the Government Secondary School in Bambaland, Cameroon. At the beginning of each academic year, hundreds of student candidates fill out the MI Scholarship Application Form. The recipients use their scholarship to pay for their school tuition, book fees and other school dues.

Each applicant was asked to write a short piece about why they would like to receive the scholarship and what their dreams and aspirations are for the future. Below are some examples of past submissions:

Tangunu Emmanuel Pienjeh, Male, Age 17, Form Three, 2007/2008 Applicant
"I lost my mother in class two. She became very sick and I had to drop out of school to take care of her. She finally died. In class seven I had no money to register for the common entrance. I borrowed money and my friend supported me with 5 000frs. I passed with a list A. My neighbour saw how much I was struggling and helped me with 10 000frs to register for secondary school. I have an old father and two younger brothers to take care of and they look up to me. One of my teachers even helped to pay my fees when I was denied my report card. I was 2nd out of 52 with an average of 16.92. This is the problem lack of fees, textbooks and exercise books. I keep facing every year. I have an old father and two younger brothers to take care of and they look up to me. If God helps me I will like to be a nurse in the future."
Nkwanwi Ernest Mbipiengoh, Male, Age 14, Form Three, 2007/2008 Applicant
"I am a complete orphan. The last child in a family of seven and two recently died. All my elders never went to school. They can barely take care of themselves and their family. I always admired  those going to school so I gave my sister no peace until she sent me to school till I finished my primary school. I used to clean fields and till  to raise money. Some female teachers in my school also supported me financially. If I am given this scholarship I will study harder and buy all my text books, average daily meals, good shoes. I will like to become a journalist or a translator. I am good at the necessary subjects that I need to specialise in."

Tangunu Clement, Male, Age 14, Form One, 2008/2009 Applicant
“I started suffering when my mother died. My father was too old and could not take care of me. I tried on my own to pay my school fees from class two to class seven (in Primary School). I even repeated class three because my school fees was not paid. I dropped from school in class five so that I can pay my school fees in class seven. I need this scholarship to complete some of my textbooks, exercise books and school fees. I dream of becoming a teacher in future."

Lengouh Quinta, Male, Age 16, Form 4, 2009/2010 Applicant
"My mother and I struggle to work the farm to raise money for my school needs.  I am often absent from class and for some of the tests, I will be absent because I have to work money in order to buy textbooks and pay school fees. If I am given the scholarship, I will buy textbooks and pay my school fees...I will be sure that I will have an average from 17 upward. If all this happens and I have an average of up to 18 and it grows continuously, well I would like to be a medical doctor."
Tokoh adeline Fehnui, Female, Age 14, Form Four B, 2010/2011 Applicant
"When I was to go to Form One, my father died. My mother and my sister started managing.  It is my sister who sponsors me. I really need this scholarship because it will improve on my education. I really like education, but I do not have someone who can sponsor me. But the Lord says that, where there is no way,  He will be the way.  By His word, I know that once day, I will have a bright future.
I dream of becoming a lecturer in the university. When I woke up in the morning and told my mother and sister, we all laughed and my mother told me that I should keep on praying for my dream. I am still praying that God should fulfil the promise which he showed me in the dream."
