Who is Maya?

Maya means, in the Bambalang language of the North West Region of Cameroon, the mother of a girl child. Originally named, Alice Napah Ghogomu, Maya earned her name after she had her first child, who she named Margaret. She went on to have two boys and three other girls.
Throughout her motherhood, she raised, disciplined and loved her children. Though not part of her nuclear family, she also provided for many orphaned children in the surrounding communities. Even after the death of her husband, she continued to work tirelessly for the future and well-being of these children.
Married to late Pah Ghogomu Samuel Tandafor, she and her three co-wives (Matah, Muashei and MahJohn), have served as immovable examples of strong, devoted women. Dedicated women worked hard to keep their large family together and united.
For her particular love, generosity and commitment, Maya is the inspiration behind Maya Initiatives. A great inspiration to her children and grandchildren, her example has taught them to always care for the less privileged people who cross their path and to reach out to their communities.
It is in her honor that her grandchild, Pochi Tamba, started Maya Initiatives to promote her goodwill and encourage others to do same.
