Since 2007, Maya Initiatives (MI) has been working to
empower persons marginalized by society, by giving them a voice and a sense of
community acceptance. MI began with the Scholarhip Programme that aimed to
improve the school-retention rate of orphans in the Bambalang community
(Northwest Region, Cameroon). MI has since grown to include three other
programmes, that each contributes to the global movement to support and empower
women and children, in communities throughout Cameroon: the Family Support
Programme (FSP), the Clothesline Project, and the Peer Education Project.
